Dear girls,

I must admit that I struggle with women. Not all women – just the crazy ones. 

Too many women are weak, sneaky, backstabbing, jealous, insecure and catty, and they are raising their daughters to be the same way. Some women talk often about women’s rights, but some women have done more to hurt women’s rights than some men. 

I appreciate those mothers who are doing the job well – like your mom. She is raising you to be supportive, secure, courageous, strong, collaborative, open, honest, candid and authentic. 

I am proud of you, and I love you unconditionally.

Living in a World That Does Not Value You

Dear girls,

Black girls and young women have to live and thrive in a world that does not value them. Strong Black women do not live forever, so we need to prepare our future generations to live and thrive in our absence. 

That’s the main reason this blog exists.

You have the Power

Hi, girls.

I have been reflecting on the state of our nation and world, and I keep coming back to one word – women. Some of the most hateful words and deeds come from men – men with wives, daughters and granddaughters.

What does it say about women who have influence over men but do not use it? What does it say about women who listen to the men in their life bash other women, people of color, Muslins and gay people, and they remain silent? What does it say about women who watch their men vote against women’s reproductive rights, and they remain silent?

I am the most influential person in my husband’s life. I am one of the most influential people in my daddy’s life. There is no way that I could or would remain silent if my husband or daddy spewed the kind of hatred that some men spew. There is absolutely no way. 

Women who are not using their power, influence and privilege to influence their men to be good and decent are part of the problem. It’s great to march, protest and speak out. However, their advocacy should start at home with their own families – especially the men in their lives. 

This message is something White women should definitely reflect on – a lot.

You CAN Make a Difference

Hi, girls.

Here are some activities you can do – on a daily basis – to make a difference in the lives of women and others:

  • Support other women. Stop competing with them. Instead, compete with yourself.
  • Mentor other women.
  • Stop bashing strong, outspoken and courageous women. Instead, focus on the quiet, sneaky and back-stabbing ones. They are the true threat to other women.
  • Encourage other women when they are getting “beat down” by the world. A kind word goes a long way.
  • Speak up when you see another woman being wronged. The next one to be wronged could be you.
  • Use your platform to speak for other women who do not feel they have a voice. Your courage will “carry” them until they have the confidence to find and use their own voices.
  • Limit your interactions with men and women who do not value women. They are like a cancer. Do not allow them to invade your life, space, thoughts and spirit.

You are loved and cherished – by me and many others.
