Dear girls,

As you know, some Americans voted for and elected Trump. He is a HORRIBLE person. Period.

He has no morals and values, and his children has none. You cannot teach what you do not know, have or understand. I am not surprised that he and his children are constantly under fire. I expected nothing less, and the fire will continue to burn until he is impeached. We were raised right, so we know that none of this debacle is normal. NONE OF IT…

Some of those who voted for him remain silent. They are embarrassed, and they should be. They voted on the wrong side of history, and generations of Americans will pay a steep price for their ignorance and horrific judgment.

Remain vigilant, my sweet girls. The country will not always be this evil. Better days are ahead.

Dear girls,

Life can be hard – especially for Black women and girls. However, we will continue to thrive – as we have done for hundreds of years.

What do I do to cope with the madness? The same things I have been doing for years:

• I am keeping my circle small. It includes my husband, sister and close friends.
• I am refraining from discussing politics at work. When like-minded people at work approach me about the election, I will talk with them. However, that’s it.
• I am unfriending clueless people on Facebook. This is my personal page. Like I do at home, I do not have to invite people into my world who will not “ride” for me. 
• I am helping to raise you to be remarkable, strong and courageous women. The world will never love you like your parents and I do, so we are preparing you for that.
• I am remaining vocal about racism, sexism, homophobia and other social injustices. If others do not like it, that’s their problem. My advice? Get a backbone.

I am angry, aware and awoke. At the same time, I am courageous, fearless, inspired and fired up. We have many years of MESS ahead of us, and I am ready to take it on. I will do it and maintain my sense of self. I will remain whole – emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically – and I will encourage my circle and you to do the same. Most importantly, sweet girls, I encourage you to do the same.

You WILL live a full, positive, fulfilling and love-filled life. You are worthy and deserving. You are loved, admired and respected.
